FR SILOUAN COHEN, OUR CURRENT PRIEST

Fr Silouan Cohen was born in Bossier City, Louisiana but grew up in Shreveport, where he also met his wife, Katie, while they both worked at a local coffee shop. They were married in November 2011 and had their first child, Sophia, on October 6, 2012, followed by Genevieve (2013), Christopher (2015), and Brigid (2017).

Fr Silouan completed his B.A. at LSU-Shreveport in May of 2019, then moved himself and his family to Yonkers, NY, the following August to begin his seminary studies at St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary. In his second year, he was ordained a deacon by Bishop Andrei (Hoarste) on March 25, 2021. Over the summer of that same year, he completed a full unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Catholic Health (Mercy Hospital) in Rockville Center, NY; and then he was assigned to Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Cathedral in Jersey City, NJ under the tutelage of Mitred Archpriest Joseph Lickwar. On December 12, 2021, he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Alexander (Golitzin) at his home parish, Holy Nativity of the Lord, in Shreveport, LA.

His academic studies were postponed in his final semester, however, after his daughter Sophia unexpectedly fell ill with leukemia in Februrary 2022. After her death and funeral the following September (on the feast and leavetaking of the Nativity of the Theotokos) he and his family left seminary and moved back to Shreveport where Fr Silouan was attached to his home parish, Holy Nativity of the Lord Orthodox Church. For the next year, Fr Silouan completed his course requirements remotely and worked as a supply priest for the Diocese of the South, serving several parishes and missions in the Southcentral and Mississippi River deaneries. He also was blessed to fill-in for a local Antiochian Orthodox parish. In May 2023, he was awarded the M.Div. degree, then served one more year at Holy Nativity in Shreveport as the assistant priest to and under the incomparable tutelage of Archpriest Jason Foster. In July 2024, Fr Silouan was assigned Priest-in-charge of St Paul the Apostle Orthodox Church. He and his family arrived to Denison, TX, on August 1 to begin this new endeavor by the grace of God.
